JV girls defeat rival Lumpkin

Dawson County High School Coach Anne Hyams and her junior varsity Lady Tiger basketball team demolished Lumpkin County, 57-27, Dec. 26 in Dahlonega.

The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by sophomore Lauren Burgess who poured in 19 points in the victory.

Dawson County got off to a slow start and trailed 11-9 after one quarter of play. Hyams made some changes between quarters and the Lady Tigers outscored Lumpkin 22-4 in the second quarter to take a commanding 31-15 lead at halftime.

Joining Burgess in the scoring column were eight other Dawson County players. The list of offensive contributors includes; Katelynn Simpson - 10 points, Emily Queen - nine points, Tabitha Morrison - six points, Brittany Griggs - five points, Eliza Sillesky - three points, Cassie McPherson and Tatum Pruitt with two points each and Belle Queen - one point.

"The girls continue to improve as individuals, as well as a team. I am very proud of the effort that they put forth against the Lumpkin County Indians," Hyams said.

The Lady Tigers are currently 5-1 on the season.

The team will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday against East Hall at home. The junior varsity boys team will play at 4 p.m.
