Once again, the Dawson County Tigers boys cross country team qualified for the state championship race in Carrollton, Ga. after finishing third in last week’s Region 7-3A race in Helen, Ga.

Senior Ethan Smith finished the race fourth overall with a time of 17:36. Sophomore Tyler Tangel finished 18th with a time of 18:47 and freshman Bailey Swafford finished right behind in 19th, with a time of 18:48. Seniors Devin Knight and Ryan McGinnis rounded the pack out for the Tigers. Knight finished 22nd with a time of 18:52 and McGinnis finished in 23rd with a time of 19:02

Sophomore Chase Cofield and freshman Luke Lowe also represented Dawson County at the race and just did not have their races scored, but Cofield and Lowe both each finished in the top-35 runners. Lowe ran a 19:39 with Cofield right behind with a 19:40. Each runner finishing in the top-35 was the best entire team finish out of any team in the region.

Last season, the boys team finished region champions and finished second in the state.

The DCHS girls team finished fifth in the region, unable to advance to the state tournament. Sophomore Anna LeCave finished eighth overall with a time of 21:34. Sophomore Jules Phillips ran a 22:36 and sophomore Izzy Knight ran a 23:42.

The GHSA 3A state championship race will be held at Carrollton High School on Friday, Nov. 5. The race will start at 10:30 a.m.
