The Dawson County Tiger varsity wrestling team took home a third place finish during last week's Rumble on the Ridge tournament held at Fannin County High School in Blue Ridge.

The Tigers defeated Towns County, 66-12, Rabun Gap, 66-15, Rabun County, 54-25, and Fannin County, 69-12. The only loss of the tournament came at the hands of Lambert, 51-27.

The Tigers now have a team record of 18-5 this season. It was also the 100th win for the seniors on the Tiger team.

Against Rabun County several Tigers won their matches by way of pin. Pinning their opponents were Josh Poe (106) over Brandon Kirby, Quade Buytendorp (120) over John Pydeski, Harrison Adams (138) against Cody Jordan, Jeremy Whalen (145) over Sam Butikofer, Gilbert Pruitt (152) against Alex Ortega, Brett Whalen (182) over Jack Blackstock, Gaven Brown (195) against John Singer and Chase Wilson (285) over Tristan Terry.

In the loss to Class AAAAAA Lambert several Tigers had a good showing. Winning by decision was Harrison Adams (138) by a 7-4 score against Adam Diemart. Pinning their foe were Zach Guy (160), Brett Whalen (182) and Joseph Toal (285).

For the second time this week the Tigers romped over Rabun Gap. Winning by pin were Josh Poe (106), Justin Evans (113), Quade Bettendorf (120), Robby Barrett (126), Brett Whalen (182), Jacob Haberkam (220) and Chase Wilson (285).

Picking up points by way of forfeit against Rabun Gap were Jeremy Whalen (138), Austin Williams (145), Guy (160) and Ryan Jones (170).

The Tigers also wrestled on Thursday, December 19 at Gainesville High School in a tri-match with the Red Elephants and Centennial. Results were not available by press time.
