The four year state tournament run for the Dawson County Lady Tigers golf team has come to a close.

On Monday the team was ousted from the Region 8-AA playoffs at Chattahoochee Golf Course in Gainesville. The Lady Tigers finished in third place and failed to qualify for the state AA championship.

Winning the region championship was Jefferson High School with an 18-hole total of 182.

The Lady Dragons were challenged by second place finisher Rabun County who came home with a 186.

Both Jefferson and Pickens County will represent the region in the state tournament next week.

Charley Whitmire led all Lady Tiger golfers with a 94, while fellow senior Katie Stowers came in with a 107 for Head Coach Shari Chastain’s team. Both players played in their last match for the Lady Tigers.

Jessi Phillips and Rachel Dotson both shot a 118 for the Lady Tigers.

Rabun’s Jessica Arthur was the region low medalist with a 84.

Despite a valiant effort Coach Van Samples’ boys team came up a little short. The team finished a respectable fourth place.

Sophomore Wesley Bearden shot a career low 18-hole score of 75, finishing only one stroke behind the low medalist.

Seniors Matt Christopher and Nick Fitts finished their high school careers with an 81 and 92 respectively. Also scoring for Dawson were Zack Williams with an 84 and Cody Palmer with a 92.

North Oconee took the region crown with Rabun County coming in second. The Wildcats had to defeat Union County in a playoff to finish second and earn a place in the state tournament.
