The Dawson County High School junior varsity girls basketball team opened its season with a big win over Pinecrest Academy on Friday.

The Lady Tigers defeated Pinecrest, 43-9.

Coach Anne Hyams' team held Pinecrest scoreless through three quarters of play and took a 35-0 lead in the final period.

Heather Brady and Cassie McPherson led all Lady Tiger scorers with seven points each.

Scoring six points were Emily Queen and Eliza Sillesky. Lauren Burgess added five points, while Tatum Pruitt, Katelynn Simpson and Ava Walker each had four points in the victory.

"The victory was certainly a team effort, as every player put forth a tremendous effort on defense, and the scoring was spread out among all the players. I was very proud of each young lady during our first JV game of the season, because the girls displayed a strong work effort, showed a lot of hustle and they worked well as a team," Hyams said.

The team will be back in action Dec. 6 at Banks County High School.
