The junior varsity Lady Tigers' basketball team lost its season opener 54-48 to Towns County on Saturday.

Coach Mark Ragsdale's team battled through foul trouble to keep the game competitive.

Dawson accumulated 22 fouls to the Lady Indians nine fouls.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an 18-14 first quarter lead.

Dawson scored 14 points in the second quarter to hold a 32-29 halftime advantage.

Towns County scored 15 points in the second quarter, with 10 of those points coming from the free throw line.

Towns connected on four three pointers in the third quarter to take a 48-40 lead after three periods of play.

Despite outscoring Towns 8-6 in the final quarter, it wasn't enough and gave the visiting Lady Indians the win.

Misty Lindemuth led the Lady Indians with 13 points, followed by teammate Destiney Blythe with 10 points.

Jordan Moore led Dawson with 11 points.

Other Lady Tigers scorers were: Madison Shope - 10 points, Hannah Moye - 7 points, Cassidy Lecours - 7 points, Brooke Wende - 6 points, Alison Honea - 4 points and Emily Ayers - 3 points.

The Lady Tigers will be back in action at 4 p.m. Dec. 2 at home against Gilmer County.
