On Sunday, April 10, two members of the Dawson County High School fishing team participated in a tournament hosted by the North Georgia High School Fishing Trail at Laurel Park in Gainesville.

Buddy Benson and Braedon Hubbard bested a field of 58 teams to win the tournament nestled on the north side of Lake Lanier.

The duo finished the day with a bag of five fish weighing in at 21.29 pounds. They also had the largest individual catch of the day, with one weighing 6.05 pounds.

“Buddy and Braedon are hitting their peak at the perfect time,” DCHS fishing coach Donna Melton said. “I am sad that Braedon is graduating but I know Buddy will have a phenomenal senior year. Whoever his new partner is will be a lucky person.”

On Saturday, April 16, the DCHS fishing team will have two pairs participating at the GHSA fourth qualifier at Lake Lanier. This is the last qualifying event before the GHSA State Bass Fishing Championship held at Clarks Hill Lake in May.

The two teams representing DCHS will be Sam Anderson with Chatham Burnett and Ryan Crews with Caroline Crawford.

DCN will have an updated article following the results of Saturday’s tournament.
