The Dawson County varsity baseball team completed a two-game series sweep of the Mt. Bethel Eagles with a 20-0, three-inning win Feb. 27 after a similarly lopsided 16-2 victory in their first meeting Feb. 25.

The Tigers took the lead on the strength of a seven-run first inning as Hudson Sapp led the offense for Dawson County, going four of four at the plate with six RBIs and a grand slam that capped a 13-run third inning and ended the game for the Eagles.

Cameron Moore picked up the win from the mound for Dawson County with two innings of no-hit baseball and seven strikeouts. Gabe Gutierrez gave up one hit in his one inning on the mound.

Bo Lewis led the Tigers at the plate in the first game of the series Feb. 25 with a two for two, four run performance that gave Dawson County an early lead that they built into a 16-2 final score over four innings.

Sapp displayed his pitching arm as he recorded the win with seven strikeouts on two hits and two runs for Mt. Bethel. He also proved to be a devastating base running threat as he accounted for a remarkable six of the Tigers’ nine stolen bases in the game.

The sweep put the Tigers on a two-game winning streak as they advance their season record to 2-1 and prepare to hit the road for a game with the Chestatee War Eagles Feb. 28.
