Tiger Hunter Burt represented Dawson County at the 2014 state golf championships at Belle Meade Country Club in Thomason. The match was played on May 19.

Burt shot a 79 over the 18-hole par 72 6,533-yard course for a 24th place finish at the event that saw more than 100 golfers compete. It was Burt's best score of the year and came at great time, playing in the state championship.

Christopher Harris from St. Pius X won the state championship with a -3, 69. North Oconee's David Macken holed a 70, which was good for second place.

"He (Burt) went into the state with the idea of having fun and doing the best he could and that is exactly what he did. The best thing about him is he is a freshman. He now has state experience under his belt and will only improve from this point. His game got better every match this season," said Head Coach Wes Greer.

Winning the team state championship was North Oconee with a score of 302. Oconee County finished as runner-up with a team score of 304.

"Both of the boys and girls teams next season will be very competitive and should both have a chance to win the region. We lose four seniors, two from the girls and two from the boys. The future is very bright for Dawson County's golf teams," Greer said.
