The final four teams of the Georgia High School Association’s AAA State Football Playoffs all entered the tournament ranked No. 1 in their respective regions.
All four teams are centered around solid defense but have the capability to put points on the board in a hurry. Three of the four have recorded a shut-out in the playoffs and, combined, they have outscored their opponents 444-98 through the first three rounds.
The defending state champion Cedar Grove Saints, representing region 5, will be making their fifth straight appearance in the final four. They will host region 7’s Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans who are returning to the semi-finals for the fifth time in six years after being knocked out of last year’s tournament in the second round.
The Crisp County Cougars, out of region 1, are another familiar staple of the post-season. This will be their first appearance in the final four since 2016, but the team’s fourth time overall. Playing at home, the Cougars will be taking on the Cinderella story of this year’s playoffs, the Jenkins High School Warriors, out of region 5.
The Warriors, after just missing the dance last year, will be making their first appearance in the GHSA semi-finals since 1966, and have become the first public school from Savannah to make it this far since 1969.
Both games are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6 followed by the State Championship game on Dec. 13.
