Dawson County Tigers soccer came away with two wins last week against Pinecrest Academy at home and away at Athens Academy to jump to No. 3 in the state in Class AAA.
The Tigers took Pinecrest 3-1 and Athens by a score of 5-0.
"This was two good wins for us this week against good Pinecrest and Athens Academy teams. They are so well coached and this gave us an opportunity to see where we are as a team," Lacey said.
"I am so excited when I watch this team," said Lacey. "We had some players step up tonight.
"Alan Sanchez is coming into his own and starting to show he is one of the top soccer players in AAA," Lacey said. "Alan has just God-given ability and every game he does something else amazing with his skill."
The lone goal in the first half against Pinecrest came from senior Alan Sanchez on an assist from Jason Mays at the 18:15 mark.
In the second half junior Cole Dennis scored (35:34) his first goal of the season on an assist from Sanchez.
The Tigers defense was stifling this week as the only goal against them was when Pinecrest scored at 33:17 on Wednesday.
"Our defense had a big week shutting down everything coming at them," Lacey said.
Sophomore Nathan Blythe finished the scoring with a goal at 5:14 off an assist from senior Ty Anglin to close out the win over the Paladins.
The Tigers shut out Athens Academy on Friday night in Athens, 5-0.
This was goalie Anglin's third shutout of the season to date.
"Ty Anglin also had another great game in goal," Lacey said. "He sees the field so good and helps keep everyone aware of the job responsibilities and what is coming their way. Then you add his tremendous keeper skills in the goal and you have one heck of a keeper."
Sanchez got his third goal of the season in the first at 30:05 on an assist from sophomore Dennis Pyetsukh. Pyetsukh then scored the next two goals for Dawson at the 23:19 on an assist from Tim Moody and at 6:49 on an assist from Sanchez.
Cousins Alan and Xavier Sanchez worked well with Dennis to finish up the scoring for the night with the fourth goal coming from Alan at 39:01 on a Dennis assist and the final coming from freshman Xavier Sanchez at 7:05 also on an assist from Dennis.
"This team is special so far," Lacey said. "No drama, just kids who like to play together doing what we do the best, play soccer and win."
The team will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Pickens County.
