Over the weekend cheerleaders of all ages from TKO Cheer competed in two national competitions and won in multiple categories including a national championship by the Youth Level 2 team and an overall grand championship to qualify for nationals by the Senior 4 division team.
"We have an amazing group of athletes at TKO," said Kim Fleming, who owns the gym with her husband, Jeff. "We are proud of all the athletes and coaches at TKO. Their hard work and dedication really showed on the mat this weekend."
On Saturday, six teams competed at the Georgia World Congress Center in the Universal Spirit Nationals in downtown Atlanta.
Titanium, the Youth Level 2 team, won the national title in their division. The team is comprised of 20 girls ranging in age from 8 to 11.
During Sunday's Americheer Nationals competition at the Northwest Trade and Convention Center in Dalton, the four TKO teams made a clean sweep of every division-all taking first place.
The Strikers won first in the Youth Level 1 divisions while Titanium took first in the Youth Level 2.
The Showouts placed first in the Senior 2 division. The Showouts were also able to take the high point award for Levels 1 and 2.
The Senior Level 4 team, the Bombshells, also won first place in their Senior 4 division and received the high point award for levels 3 and 4. The Bombshells were the overall grand champion and won a bid in the U.S. finals which will take place May 7 and 8 in Virginia Beach.
"It's a huge accomplishment," said Fleming. "We're really excited about that."
