The siren at the world famous Pool Room rang out through Dawsonville on Friday night after native son Chase Elliott won his first career NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.

"This is unbelievable, man. I can't believe it," he said at a press conference after the victory. "This is just awesome."

Driving the No. 9 Napa Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro for JR Motorsports, Elliott at 18 is the second youngest driver to win in the Nationwide Series.

"To have this opportunity to come and race these guys ... is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," he said.

With the win, Elliott moves ahead of teammate Regan Smith for the championship points lead.

Elliott, led a career-best 38 laps, ran near the front of the pack for most of the race, taking the lead on lap 134.

He battled JR Motorsports teammate Kevin Harvick as the race wound down, regaining the lead with 15 laps to go.

In his first start at the famed Texas speedway, Elliott said passing Harvick for the lead was special after relying on the veteran's experience at the track.

"I went to him for a lot of advice this week. He gave me some tips that I felt helped tonight to pass him for the lead. I just can't believe it," Elliott said.

His father, former NASCAR Winston Cup champion Bill Elliott, said he was speechless after watching the race.

"For never having been to some of these places ... and come out and beat the kind of guys you've beat, you've done a great job," he said.
