Boys track takes seven first place spots

The Dawson County boys track team had a record setting day with close to half of the athletes setting personal records and the relay team setting a new school record.

The Tigers finished second overall in the March 29 meet against Forsyth Central and East Hall on their home field.

The boys' 4x800 meter relay team finished first at 8 minutes 46 seconds. The team is comprised of Garrett Carlisle, Christopher Shelp, Cody Wood and Jacob Poston.

Carlisle finished third in the 800 at 2.15 and junior Corey Hammond got third in the 200 at 24.59.

In field events the boys were able to take first in five separate events including shot put, discus, long jump, triple jump and pole vault.

Senior Jeff Drew finished first in both the long jump and triple jump with jumps of 19 feet 1 ½ inches and 39-8 ½ respectively.

Senior Jake Satterfield took first in shot put at 43-4 ½ inches. He also threw for second in discus at 111-6.

Dawson County athletes took first, second and third in discus. Duncan Korbor threw 114-8 for first and Beau Cooper took third at 105-11.

In the high jump, senior Ron Mulberry took third at 5-8.

The Tigers also took first in pole vault with a jump of 10-0 by freshman Wyatt Smith.

The next meet is at 4 p.m. on April 12 at Dawson County against Johnson and Chestatee high schools.
