Boys track takes second in meet at home, improves at invitational

In last week's home meet versus East Hall and North Forsyth, the Dawson County Tigers took second overall in track and field. At the GACS invitational on Saturday, several athletes finished well against 12 other schools from across North Georgia.

"As a whole, I am very pleased with our improvement and effort over the weekend in a very big meet with a lot of quality teams attending," said Coach Arron Haynes.

The teams competed in a home meet on March 15 and at the GACS Invitational at Greater Atlanta Christian in Norcross on March 19.

Senior shot put competitor Jake Satterfield once again saw success with a first place finish on a 42 foot 2 inch throw at the home meet on March 15. Satterfield also took sixth overall on Saturday with a 39-10 throw.

Senior Jeff Drew topped all others in the long jump at 18-11during the event at home and took eighth Saturday at 19 2 ½ .

Senior runner Garrett Carlisle took first in the 800-meter with a time of 2 minutes 14 seconds during the home meet.

Junior Jacob Poston ran to a fifth place finish in the 800 during the invitational with a time of 2:03.44. He also managed a second place overall on Saturday in the 1600 with a time of 4:36.55.

In the field events senior Duncan Korbor took second in discus with a throw of 115-7 on March 15 and also took fifth overall Saturday at 119-11.

Against East Hall and North Forsyth Senior Brenden Capps placed third in the shot put at 38-6 ½. Senior Ron Mulberry had a high jump of 5-6 to also take third. Pole vaulter Ethan Cowart placed third at 9.

On the home track, sophomore Christopher Shelp took second in the 3200 at a time of 11:23. Shelp also took second in the 1600 at 5:05. The Dawson A team placed second in both relays. They had a time of 46.47 in the 4x100 and 3.49 in the 4x400.

All taking third place finishes during the Mar. 15 meet were freshman Cody Wood in the 3200 at 11:36, Carlisle in the 1600 at 5:12 and junior Rustin Howell in the 300 intermediate hurdles at 52.70.

The Tigers will host the Amicalola Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday at Dawson County High School.
