Wynona Harris Payton

Wynona Harris Payton, 84, of Dawsonville, died Aug. 18, 2011.

Born Nov. 6, 1926 in Carrolton to the late Jesse Terrell and Elma Harris, she had lived in Dawson County since 1975 having moved from Mableton. Mrs. Payton retired as an underwriter with Commercial Union Insurance Company after 30 years of service.

She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.

Her husband, Buel "Ben" Payton, and a brother, J.T. Harris, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Dee Payton of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Tracie Burriss, Emily Henderson, Drew Payton; great-grandchildren, Payton Burriss, Thomas Burriss, Anne Marie Burriss; sisters, June Strobino, Violette Denney, Glenda Middleton, Francine Bundrum, Johnnie Bruce, Julia Rose; brothers, Dennis Harris, Connor Harris; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 20 at New Hope United Methodist Church with the Revs. Larry Patton and Dennis H. Harris officiating. Interment followed at 4 p.m. in the Glenloch Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklin.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
