William J. "Bill" Gardiner Jr., 55, of Dawsonville, died Oct. 4, 2016.

Born June 17, 1961 in Warwick, R.I., Mr. Gardiner had lived in Dawsonville for the past four years.

Bill worked as a project manager for Motorola.

He served eight years in the United States Coast Guard.

Bill was a huge sports fan and especially enjoyed golf, the Dallas Cowboys and the Boston Red Sox.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

His mother, Sandra Porter; and a brother, Craig A. Gardiner, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Gretchen Gardiner of Dawsonville; children, Nicholas Brandon Gardiner of Gainesville, Britni Layne Gardiner of Savannah; granddaughter, Harper M. Butts of Savannah; father and stepmother, William J. "Bill" and Kate Gardiner of St. Simons Island; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and John Briggs of Exeter, R.I.; various other relatives also survive.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 7 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Fr. Brian Higgins officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to Northside Hospital Foundation, for Northside Forsyth 5 Tower, 1200 Northside Forsyth Dr., Cumming, GA 30041.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
