Vera Carter, 87, of Dawsonville, died Feb. 18, 2013.

Mrs. Carter was born April 13, 1925, to the late H. Percy and Nellie Cox.

Born and raised in Australia, she had been a resident of Dawson County since 1945, after meeting her late husband of 63 years, L.C. "Spud" Carter, while he was serving in the military and stationed in the South Pacific.

She retired from Standard Telephone Company after 17 years of service, served on the Dawson County Board of Education and was a member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church.

Her son, Kelvin Carter; sisters, Azura Cox and Dorothy Cox; and brothers, Percy Cox and Kelvin Cox, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughters, Janice Clayton of Norcross, Christine Charnley, Lisa Carter, both of Dawsonville; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Lynn Carter of Dallas; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 22 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Interment followed in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the Dawson County Senior Center, P.O. Box 598, Dawsonville, GA 30534.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
