The Rev. Robert B. Hoppy Hopkins

The Rev. Robert B. "Hoppy" Hopkins, 76, of Dawsonville, died July 29, 2013.

The Rev. Hopkins was born Dec. 1, 1936, to the late Grady and Avery Hopkins, and was raised in Forsyth County. A resident of Dawsonville for the past 34 years, he was a member and pastor of Salacoa Baptist Church in Fairmont.

He had also been the past of numerous churches in the north Georgia area.

A master plumber, he worked for many years doing residential and commercial construction all over Georgia.

He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman.

His sisters, Evelyn Myers, Pat Denny, Katie Sanders and Barbara Evans, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Betty Hopkins of Dawsonville; son, J.D. Hopkins of Dawsonville; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Richard Haynes of Barnesville, Heather Ferguson, Gail and Willie Patterson, Doris and Ricky Cook, all of Dawsonville; brothers, Grady Hopkins of Ellijay, Mark Hopkins of Cumming, James Hopkins, Lamar Hopkins, both of Winder; sisters, Karen Metcalf, Emma Seabolt, both of Winder; grandchildren, Travis Simmons, Paul Gilreath, Jessica Cook, Zachary Cook, Ashley Hollingshead, Lukas Hollingshead, William Ferguson; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Sierra and Cheyenne Simmons; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 1 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Paul Richard and Max Padgett officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
