Ronald Griggs, 69, of Dawsonville, Forsyth County, died July 6, 2014.

Mr. Griggs was born Sept. 12, 1944 in Gilmer County to the late William and Mildred Griggs.

He had been a resident of Forsyth County for more than 40 years.

A graduate of Gilmer County High School and later Pickens Technical College with a degree in electronics, he worked for AT&T and Lucent Technologies as an electronic technician until retiring after 37 years of service.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, member of Silver City Baptist Church and longtime member of the Forsyth County Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones Award.

An avid outdoorsman he loved being outside, working around his home, his tractor and especially watching his grandchildren play sports.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Hilda Griggs, of Forsyth County; daughters and sons in law, Lisa and Tracey Phillips of Dawsonville, Angela and John Spears of Milton; grandchildren, Jessi Phillips, Jake Phillips, Andrew Spears, Jared Spears; brother and sister in law, Daryl and Marilyn Griggs of Ellijay; sister in law, Joyce Page of Ellijay; brother in law and sister in law, C.W. and Patricia Page of Douglasville; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. July 8, 2014 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Stephen Davis and Wilson Pruett officiating. Interment followed in the Georgia National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
