Rita Phyllis Nolan, 87, of Cumming died July 27, 2014.

Born June 23, 1926 in Unity, Pa. to the late Nick and Mary Moss, Rita grew up in Pleasant Unity where she met and married James (Jim) Q. Nolan, Sr.

Jim enlisted in the United States Army and Rita joined him as an Army wife for 27 years. They were happily married for 66 years.

They raised 3 children while being assigned around the world to places like Alaska, Japan, Germany and Turkey.

Rita was a recognized volunteer for the Red Cross, the Army Community Service and the Military Council of Catholic Women. She was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Fort Lee Officer's Women's Bowling League for 40 years.

She enjoyed bridge, golf, bowling, Bunco and her three children, six grandchildren and two great grandbabies.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Q, Nolan, Sr.

Survivors include her son, James Q. Nolan Jr. and his wife Debbie Nolan of Miami, FL; daughters, Karen M. Nolan and husband Ted Richardson of Cumming, Rita Selman and husband Brad Selman of Eden Prairie, Minn; sister-in-Law Betty Constantine of Greensburg, Pa.; grandchildren, Alyssa and Stephen Carlson, Jeffrey and Dana Nolan, Devin and Abbey Shoupe, Jake Nolan, Matthew Selman and Alexis Selman; great-grandchildren, Sam and Sylvie Carlson; various other relatives also survive.

A funeral service was held at 7 p.m. July 29 at McDonald & Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Embracing Hospice http://embracinghospicecare.org/foundation.asp or mailed to 8013 Majors Rd, Cumming, Ga. to The Embracing Hospice Care Foundation for Life.

McDonald & Son Funeral Home & Crematory in Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
