Richard John Becker, 78, of Dahlonega, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021.
Mr. Becker was born in Cleveland, Ohio on Nov. 24, 1942, to the late James Edward and Reba Sawyer Becker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Becker.
Richard has lived in Lumpkin County for the past 42 years. He and his wife began growing tomatoes, then eventually built greenhouses. This would give them the opportunity to open their business, Perennial Gardens.
In his younger days, Richard raced Porches and Jaguars, all while developing courage and strength.
Courage he would use to bravely battle Parkinson's Disease.
Woodworking was Richard's passion.
Like most men, he loved hot rods and fishing.
For Richard, his greatest achievement was being able to establish the Etowah Valley Game Preserve and Sporting Clays Park with his sons, who now run the business daily.
He was always willing to give a helping hand and advice when needed.
Richard will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, of 51 years, Joyce Becker; sons, Alex Becker and Phillip Becker, all of Dahlonega; sister, Carol Marie Purvis of Texas; brothers, Dan Becker of Utah and Mike Becker of North Carolina; sister, Patty Greer of Alabama; brother, Paul Becker of Ireland; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held at a later date.
