Rev. Dr. Mark Preston Weaver, 61, of Dawsonville, died Thursday, May 13, 2010.

  

The Rev. Dr. Weaver was born Dec. 21, 1948 in Miami, Fla. to Naomi Preston Weaver and the late Sidney Mathew Weaver.

  

He received his undergraduate degree from Stetson University in Deland, Fla. and his Master of Divinity and Doctoral degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

  

He was former pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Toccoa, former pastor of First Baptist Church of Cornelia and former director of the Habersham Mental Health Center.

  

The Rev. Dr. Weaver was currently serving as Moderator of the Cherokee Presbytery and currently was the organizing Pastor of Grace Presbyterian, N.C.D. in Dawsonville.

  

Survivors include his wife, Donna W. Weaver of Dawsonville; mother, Naomi Weaver of Dawsonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Christin and David Stone of Asheville, N.C., Holley and Justin Earl of Cartersville; son, Mathew Weaver of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Darby and Audrey Earl of Cartersville; sister, Becky Yeomans of Miami, Fla.; brother, Bill Weaver of Miami, Fla.; various other relatives also survive.

  

A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 15 at Grace Presbyterian, N.C.D., located at the intersection of Hwys. 9 and 53 in downtown Dawsonville with the Rev. Dr. Ben Johnson officiating.

  

Another service was held at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 15 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel in Demorest with the Revs. Mike Campbell and Blaine Walker officiating. Interment followed the 5 p.m. service in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

  

In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorials be made to the Grace Presbyterian Building Fund, P.O. Box 201, Dawsonville, GA 30534 or to an organization of one's choice.

  

Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel of Demorest was in charge of the arrangements.
