Rev. Amos Joshua Creel

Rev. Amos Joshua Creel, 89, of Rome, died Tuesday Feb. 10, 2009.

  

Rev. Creel was born in Dora, Ala. June 25, 1919. He was the son of the late Rev. Chester V. Creel and the late Pearl Carlisle Creel.

  

His son, Alan Creel; sister, Betty Love; and, brother, Homer Creel also preceded him in death.

  

An ordained minister in the Church of God of Prophecy, Rev. Creel was ordained as a Bishop in 1947.

  

He served as Pastor, State Overseer and Evangelist all over the United States and overseas during his ministerial service of over 70 years. He retired from Pastoral Ministry in 1990, following eight years as Pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy in Dawsonville.

  

Rev. Creel attended the North Rome Church of God in Rome.

  

Survivors include his wife, the former Dorothy Louise Reese, to whom he was married Jan. 1, 1947; daughter, Donna Brooks and her husband, Rev. Bert Brooks of Rome; son, Rev. Darrell Creel and his wife Joy; three grandchildren, Linda Creel of Nashville, Tenn., Beth Kline of Lithia Springs, Nathan Creel of Rome; great-grandchild, Piper Kline of Lithia Springs; two sisters, Zella Creel of Cleveland, Tenn., Oneeta Andrews of Harriman, Tenn.; various other relatives also survive.

  

Funeral services were 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the North Rome Church of God with the Pastor, the Revs. Harold Jones, Mr. Creel's son-in-law, Bert Brooks and Randy Howard officiating.

  

Interment services were 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 at the graveside in Rome Memorial Park.

  

Henderson and Sons Funeral Home of Rome was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
