Ralph Laverne Haygood Jr., 84, of Mabel, Fla., died Sept. 26, 2016.

Born in Cobb County, he moved to Sumter County from Dawsonville in 1998.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, retired from General Motors, and was a Baptist by faith.

His wife, Louise; brother, James; and sister, Annie, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his sons, Terry and Tammy Haygood of Jacksonville, Fla., Jerry and Cathy Haygood of Mabel, Fla., David and Charlene Haygood of Chatsworth; daughter, Margie and Don Grant of Webster, Fla.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald, Nolan and Charles; sister, Catherine; various other relatives also survive.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 30 in the First Baptist Church of Webster with the Pastor Don Grant officiating. Interment followed at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.

Purcell Funeral Home of Bushnell, Fla, was in charge of the arrangements.
