Nina Phyllis Mayes Hill, 81, of Dawsonville, died June 10, 2010.

She was a member of Tate United Methodist Church, where she served as lay speaker, Sunday school teacher and choir member. She also served on many committees and was always active in all areas of church life.

She was a member of the Kennesaw Chapter of the U.D.C. and a member of the Andrew Hauser Chapter of the D.A.R. until she was the Founding Regent of the Sequoyah Chapter locally.

She had been a nurse by profession, receiving her L.P.N. from Marietta Vocational School and her R.N. with an associate's degree from Clayton Junior College. She was employed for many years at the Tate Clinic working for Drs. Darnell and Boswell. She later worked at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta and then as a private duty nurse.

She was an avid gardener and loved to cook and preserve the fruits of her labor.

Her parents, John Grover Mayes and Amma Adams Mayes; husband, Lloyd Amos Hill; brothers and sisters, Cora Mae Mayes, Lucille Mayes Martin, John Frank Mayes, Nell Mayes Smith, Henry Benton Mayes; and Martha Faye Mayes Greene, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Ronald Douglas Hill, Phyllis Hill, both of Dawsonville, John David Hill of Ball Ground; sister-in-law, Mayme Ellen Middleton Mayes of Macon; grandchildren, Sarah Hill Cheshire of Dawsonville, Amanda Hill Mull of Marble Hill, Scarlett Hill Jarrett of York, S.C.; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. June 19 at Tate United Methodist Church.
