Monnie Hughes, 92, of Dawsonville, died June 11, 2015.

Born Jan. 17, 1923 in Gilmer County to the late Joseph L. and Ella Anderson, she lived most of her life in Dawson County.

Mrs. Hughes retired from Sweet Orr after 20 years of service and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Monnie loved taking care of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She also enjoyed gardening, quilt making and cooking.

Her children, Judy Hendrix and Joe Hughes; great-granddaughter, Jodi Hendrix; and several brothers and sisters, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Larry Chason of Lake Toxaway, N.C.; grandchildren, Julie Chason and James McLaughlin, Ray Chason, Eric and Anna Chason, Kelly Chason, Scott and Carla Hendrix, Mark and Betty Hendrix, Rachel and Tommy Oglesby; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Aline Perry; sisters-in-law, Aline Anderson and Helen Anderson; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. June 15 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Ricky Stepp officiating. Interment followed at 1:30 p.m. in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Talking Rock.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
