Martha L. Cheney, 68, of Cumming, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009.

  

Born in Lowell, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Howard and Marjorie Hartman.

  

Martha and Martin recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary — where for the first 20 years, she was a Navy wife.

  

Mrs. Cheney was a foster and adoptive mom for 10 children and she made a mission trip to Russia where she visited many orphanages.

  

She attended Georgia Mountain Tres Dias #5, and was a member of Mountain Lake Church in Cumming.

  

Survivors include her beloved husband, Martin J. Cheney of Cumming; sons, Ted E. (Linda) Cheney of Roswell, Mark A. (Gail) Cheney of Dawsonville, Major Adam L. (Lenora) Cheney of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughter, Sierra N. Cheney of Cumming; sisters, Sheila A. (Kenneth) Emery of Columbus, N.M.; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Thompson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Erin M. Cheney, Bailey L. Cheney, Lisa Bounds, Philip Gagdon, Elizabeth Cheney, John W. Cheney and Seth M. Cheney; great-grandchildren; Trevor Bounds, Amelia Bounds and Kamryn Cheney; various other relatives also survive.

  

A celebration of life service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5 at Mountain Lake Church in Cumming with the Rev. Shawn Lovejoy officiating.

McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
