Obituaries

Marion Thomas Burley, 77, of Dawsonville, died Dec. 15, 2018.

Tom was born in Monticello, S.C. on April 30, 1941. After graduating from the University of South Carolina, Tom served his country in the United States Army, then in the Army Reserve, where he was a Staff Sergeant. After leaving the Army, Tom retired from IBM with over 30 years of service as a financial analyst, where he met many lifelong friends.

After retirement, Tom, an avid nature lover, enjoyed planning and taking long road trips to many National Parks around the country. Tom also enjoyed exploring new countries and their food and culture, working on his computer, taking pictures and watching wildlife (and occasionally shooting BBs at the unlucky squirrels that disrupted his bird feeder).

His parents, William Lee and Thomassena (Boulware) Burley; sister, Mary Burley Sturkie; and brother, Joel Daniel Burley, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ann Hammond Burley; daughter, Kellie Simon (Steve); son, Walker Burley (Kelly); beloved grandchildren, Catherine Burley, Abby Burley, and Connor Burley; brother, William Lee Burley (Dot); various other relatives also survive.

A private memorial service will be held in Dawsonville at a later date.

Bolton Funeral Home of Columbiana, Ala. was in charge of the arrangements.
