Loy Carlton Ferguson, 80, of Dawsonville, died Feb. 7, 2017.
Born Sept. 18, 1936 to the late Loy Frank and Mamie Ferguson, he had been a resident of Lumpkin County for the past 22 years after spending many years in Atlanta and Decatur.
Ferguson was a retired telecommunications consultant with IBM and was also formerly employed for many years by Sears Roebuck and Co.
He enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii and Alaska, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his sons.
He was preceded in death by a son, Barry Jeffrey "Jeff" Ferguson; his sisters Lou Tritt and Jean Mahan; and a brother, Wayne Ferguson.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ruby F. Ferguson of Dawsonville; sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Heather Ferguson of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., Greg and Dianne Ferguson of Austin, Tex., Hope Senn of Roswell; grandchildren, Kayleigh M. Ferguson, Scott F. Ferguson, Christie E. Ferguson, Ryan C. Ferguson; sisters, Bobbie Jenkins of Decatur, Beverly Ingram of Dahlonega; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Elaine Ferguson of Toccoa, Jack Ferguson of Dawsonville; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services were held Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Johnny Vaporis officiated. Interment followed in the Dahlonega Memorial Park.
The family received friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 10.
Bearden Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
