Lester Wenzel Jr., 79, of Dawsonville, died Jan. 15, 2012.

Born Feb. 19, 1932, in LaSalle, Ill. to the late Lester J. and Josephine Wenzel, he had lived in Dawson County for more than 15 years having moved from Cumming.

Mr. Wenzel was a retired bridge foreman who worked in highway construction for many years. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict and was preceded in death by a sister, Joanna Algabright.

Survivors include his companion, Irene Walker of Dawsonville; children, Dixie McCullough, Lester J. Wenzel III, Rhonda Baker, all of Illinois, Jesse Wenzel of California; sister, Donna Wenzel of Texas; several grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 18 at the Georgia National Cemetery.
