Leon Sheriff, 73, of Dawsonville, died Oct. 31, 2016.

Born Nov. 7, 1942 to the late Clifton and Millie Sheriff, he had been a resident of Dawsonville all of his life. A loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Leon was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

He had worked in the construction industry for most of his life and was a cofounder of Shoal Creek Building Supply.

He was an avid fisherman.

His brother, Larry Sheriff, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Tolbert Sheriff of Dawsonville; sons and daughters-in-law, Stevie and Donna Sheriff, Greg and Melissa Sheriff, all of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Cody, Amber and Amanda Sheriff, all of Dawsonville; brother and sister-in-law, David "Chubby" and Gail Sheriff of Dawsonville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy and Ronald Caldwell of Dahlonega, Sue and Randy Grant of Dawsonville; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Nov. 2 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Hamby officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to Bethel Baptist Church, c/o Clayton Vaughters, 3165 Hwy. 136 West, Dawsonville, GA 30534.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
