Leila Shumate, 81, of Cumming, died March 14, 2014.

She was a member of Freedom Tabernacle.

She and her husband owned Shumate and Shumate Sanitation Company. Leila did a lot of volunteer work at Freedom Tabernacle with the Outreach Ministries.

Her husband, Walter Shumate; parents, Tate and Gennie Strayhorn; brothers, Thomas, Myron, Gene, Herman and Woodrow Strayhorn; sisters, Hazel Melton and Lucille Anderson, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Molly Melton, Jeff Shumate, Tammy and Charles Saylors, all of Cumming, James A. and Barbara Melton of Ellijay, Gwen and Earnest Hyde of Dawsonville; stepchildren, Lera Dorsey, Shirley James, both of Hoschton, Barbara and Tommy Cagle, Ricky and Elaine Shumate, Brenda Gooch, Ronnie Shumate, all of Cumming; 33 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Macie Charles of Cumming; brother, Shorty Strayhorn of Cumming; sisters-in-law, Emma Shumate of Cumming, Rachel Shumate of Marietta; special friends, Brenda and Dora Ann; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. March 17 in the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Robbie Mathis, Stanley Hicks, Joe Watson and Jerry Pruitt officiating. Interment followed at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to Concord Baptist Church Missions or Freedom Tabernacle Missions.

Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
