Larence "Lynn" Hanks, 79, of Dawsonville, died Jan. 8, 2014.

Born July 29, 1934 in Persia, Tenn. to the late Richard and Anna Mae Hanks, he had lived in Dawson County for the past 18 years, having moved from Marietta.

Mr. Hanks retired from Stein Steel after more than 30 years of service.

After his retirement, he enjoyed farming, spending time with his family and traveling to Disney World. Lynn was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed on the U.S.S. Salisbury Sound and served as a seaplane tender.

He received the Air Force Pacific Fleet Battle Efficiency Trophy for seaplane tenders, the National Defense Service Medal and the China Service Medal.

Mr. Hanks was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Patricia Hanks of Dawsonville; children, Renonda and Jimmy Appling of Acworth, Jovita and Randy Coggins of Canton, Anthony Richard and Lynn Hanks of Acworth, Sonya and Robert Lay of White; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Jack Moore of Rockwood, Tenn.; brother and sister-in-law, James and Marlene Hanks of Coalfield, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 11 at Georgia Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, 1405 Clifton Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30322.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
