Laddie H. Long, 82, of Dawsonville, died Sept. 30, 2011.

Mr. Long was born April 12, 1929 in Lincoln County to the late George and Marie Long.

For many years he lived in Atlanta while enjoying a second home on Lake Lanier and moved to Dawson County to live full time in 2005.

He retired as a conductor for CSX Railroad after 42 years of service and was also a residential building contractor in the Atlanta area.

Laddie was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

His wives, Newell Howard Long and Linda Davis Long; brothers, George Ray Long, William Preston Long and Bobbie Newton Long, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Carol Long of Jefferson; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Kevin Diver of Dawsonville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Wayne Nicholson of Montgomery, Ala., Mary Jane and Thomas McAvoy of Washington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ben and Jackie Long of Tignall, Dale and Ruby Dell Long of Smyrna, Elizabeth Long of Greenville, S.C., Gertrude Long of Tignall; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Brittney and Brian Stoops of Monroe; great-granddaughter, Emma Rose Stoops; various other relatives also survive.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 7 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 1368 Ebenezer Church Road, Jefferson, GA 30549, with the Revs. Tim Taylor and Tilly Weldon officiating.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville is in charge of the arrangements.
