Katie Shelton, 85, of Buford, died Feb. 1, 2012.

Born March 12, 1926, in Lumpkin County to the late John W. Sr. and Ella Perry Ralston, she resided in Chamblee for more than 50 years prior to moving to Buford in 1999.

A homemaker at her death, she retired from Frito-Lay after more than 20 years of service.

Mrs. Shelton was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.

Her husband, Howard Shelton; dear friend, Hal "PawPaw" Compton; sisters, Clara Barker, Laura Ralston, Ollie Ralston; brothers, W.I. Ralston, J.D. Ralston and John W. "June Bug" Ralston Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Jo Ann Shelton of Cumming; sisters and brother-in-law, Jimmie Nell Hamby of Cumming, Geneva and Jerry Smith of Chickamauga, Martha Taylor of Dawsonville; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Brenda Ralston of Bonair; sisters-in-law, Lethia Ralston of Conyers, Donnis Faye Bragg of Mableton, Willa Dean Smith, Doris Baxter, both of Douglasville, Annie Ruth Corder of South Carolina; brother-in-law, Jimmy Shelton of Mableton; grandchildren, Donny and Tammy Shelton of Dawsonville, Jill and Jeff Harwood of Cumming; great-grandchildren, Andrew Shelton, Ansley Stevens, Chase Samples, various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Wehunt and Mr. Jimmy Meadows officiating. Interment followed in the Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Flowers were accepted or donations could be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, 922 East Morris Street, Dalton, GA 30721.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
