Katherine Uhry Darr, 79, of Alpharetta, died Oct. 25, 2013.

The eldest of three children of Robert and Helen Uhry, Katy was raised in Pound Ridge, N.Y.

She attended New Canaan (Connecticut) Country Day School, New Lincoln School in New York City and Bard College.

In 1954, she married Earl Anthony Darr of Rye, N.Y. The couple subsequently had two children.

Sarah Katherine Darr was born in 1955 and died in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. in 2007.

Her brother and his wife, Tom and Lani Uhry, also preceded her in death.

Her son, Thomas Gregory Darr, and his wife, Anne-Marie, live in Alpharetta. They have two daughters, Elizabeth Abt and Mary Rose Darr.

Katy moved to Ft. Lauderdale in the early 1960s. She raised her children there, owned the Bookmark (an independent bookstore on Las Olas Boulevard), worked at the Museum of Art of Ft. Lauderdale, and was associate curator of education at the Boca Museum of Art in Boca Raton. While in this position she introduced children from Carver Estates to the arts. Additionally, she established educational connections between the Old Dillard Museum and a local magnet school. Katy became a volunteer in the Ft. Lauderdale Beaux Arts Festival and served as its chairman in 1976, the year that the festival returned to Las Olas Boulevard.

She was an excellent cook and loved her family and her cat.

In addition to her son and his family, Katy is survived by her younger brother, Peter and his wife, Sydney, and their two daughters, Kate Uhry and Jennifer Yost; niece and nephew, Matthew and Amanda, who live on the west coast; various other relatives also survive.

Donations honoring Katy's life were requested made to Friends of Secret Woods, 2701 W. State Road 84, Dania Beach, FL 33312.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 27.

Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
