Joseph Hiram Gilbreth Jr., 84, of Cumming, died May 9, 2012.

Born May 15, 1927, to a military family, he graduated 10th in his class from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1949 and served in Korea.

Joseph was an engineer with Bell Laboratories for 30 years in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Alabama.

He was an active member of the West Point Association of Graduates and enjoyed music, computers, books, current events and the study of spirituality.

His wife of 52 years, Jean Herriott Gilbreth, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Gilbreth Rossow and Raleigh Rossow of Charlotte, N.C., Catherine Anne Gilbreth of Cumming, Caroline Gilbreth Holley and Steven Holley of Dawsonville; stepchildren and spouses, Bradford Carl Metzler and Judie Metzler of China, Beverly Metzler Tifft and Stephen Tifft of Lancaster, Pa., Craig Howard Metzler and Linda Metzler of Diablo, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 14 at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment followed in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.

Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
