Jerry Joseph Scohier, 71, of Dawsonville, died July 2, 2013.

Born Nov. 8, 1941, in Butler, Penn., to the late Raymond and Thelma Scohier, he had lived in Dawson County since 1999.

Mr. Scohier dedicated his life to a career in service to his country and community, first in an eight year tour with the United States Navy Submarine Service. His last Naval assignment was as Petty Officer in Charge of the main propulsion system aboard the U.S.S. Sea Poacher. Following his service in the Navy, he then entered law enforcement, first as a police officer in Fort Lauderdale and then with the University of Florida Police Department in Gainesville, where he also received his master's degree in arts in education.

After moving to Dawson County, he served with the Dawson County Sheriff's Office as the School Resource Officer at Kilough Elementary until his retirement in 2007.

Survivors include his daughter, Sharon Scohier Cabral of Bronson, Fla.; six grandchildren; three sisters; five brothers and various other relatives also survive.
