Jay Steven Lowman, 86, of Dawsonville, died Dec. 11, 2013.

Born Feb. 6, 1927, to the late John W. and Louisa Lowman, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.

Mr. Lowman retired from Motor Convoy in 1984 after 35 years of service.

After his retirement, he was employed by the Dawson County School System for 10 years. Jay was a deacon at Goshen Baptist Church for more than 50 years and taught the adult Sunday School Class for more than 25 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the European Theater, was a member of Etowah Lodge No. 222 F&AM, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Eula Sharp; and brothers, Austin Lowman and Coy Lowman.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Selma P. Lowman of Dawsonville; sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Catherine Lowman of Allentown, Mich., Russell and Sara Lowman of Dawsonville, Lynn Steven and Kimberly Lowman of Watkinsville; sister-in-law, Lucille Lowman of Dawsonville; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Dec. 14 at Goshen Baptist Church with the Revs. Ronny Bennett, Jason Hamby and Russell Burt officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to the Goshen Baptist Church Building Fund.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
