James Roy Johnson Jr., 44, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Dawsonville, died April 13, 2017.
Mr. Johnson specialized in scientific research and was the manager of regulatory affairs with the Luminex Corp.
He was formerly employed with Dawson County E.M.S. and the Center for Disease Control.
Roy was a 1990 graduate of Dawson County High School and earned his Master's Degree from McPherson University.
While attending Dawson County High School, he excelled in football, track and weightlifting, where he held several national records. When he was 15 and 16 years of age, he was known as the world's strongest teenager.
Survivors include his parents, James Roy Sr. and Betty Johnson of Gainesville; sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Scott Christopher of Dawsonville; brother, Jason Johnson of Dawsonville; nephew, Cody Christopher; various other relatives also survive.
Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 20 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Christopher officiating.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to the Dawson County Humane Society, 633 Martin Rd., Dawsonville, GA 30534.
