James Leon Gravitt

James Leon Gravitt, 67, of Dawsonville, died March 19, 2011.

 

Born Feb. 7, 1944 in Forsyth County to the late Carl and Nannie Gravitt, he lived a number of years in Marietta and Alpharetta before moving to Dawson County in 1996. Mr. Gravitt was a retired commercial truck driver with almost 50 years of service.

 

He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

 

His brother, Albert Gravitt, preceded him in death.

 

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Phyllis Gravitt of Dawsonville; children, James C. Gravitt, Jennifer and Mark Franklin, Jody Gravitt, all of Dawsonville; sisters and brother-in-law, Toni and Sam Key of Canton, Martha Tallant of Cumming; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Brenda Gravitt of Alpharetta; sister-in-law, Barbara Williams of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Brandi and Eugene Baker, Michael Gravitt, Amanda Gravitt, Joseph Franklin, Kimberly Franklin; great-grandchildren, Dejia Baker, Dyon Baker and Ryan Baker; various other relatives also survive.

 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. March 22 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bud Sutton officiating. Interment followed in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
