James "Jim" Popp, 68, of Big Canoe, died Aug. 3, 2011.

Born Oct. 27, 1942 in Middletown, Ohio to the late Carl Eugene and May Olive Popp, he had lived in Big Canoe for the past 15 years.

Mr. Popp retired from UPS after 28 years of service. He worked as a bailiff for the Dawson County courts and was a member of the Big Canoe Chapel, the Dawsonville Lion’s Club and Etowah Lodge No. 222 F&AM.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy H. Popp of Big Canoe; children, Ronald D. Popp of Doraville, Denise P. and Charles L. Holmes of Loganville, Pamela P. and J. Barry Watkins of Snellville, James Michael Popp of Tifton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra P. and Ronald Cohen of Cincinnati, Ohio, Marianne P. and Donald Creech of Palatka, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 6 at Big Canoe Chapel with Drs. Jimmy Allen and Dan Whitaker officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Canoe Chapel, 10455 Big Canoe, Big Canoe, GA 30143.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
