James D. Phillips

James D. Phillips, 80, of Dawsonville, died Monday, June 30, 2008 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a period of illness.

Born in Aragon, Ga., and coming from Clarkston, Mr. Phillips had been a resident of Athens Boat Club in Dawsonville for 25 years. Mr. Phillips was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an active member of the Mt. Paran Church of God and also attended Kilough Church by the Lake.

Survivors include his wife, Ila Mae Phillips of Dawsonville; daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Danny Drake of Dawsonville; brothers, Bobby Joe Phillips of Rockmart; Ross Phillips of Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Brandon Akins, Darren Drake, Dustin Drake and Deanne Drake; various other relatives also survive.

Graveside services for Mr. Phillips were Thursday, July 3 at 10 a.m. at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth. Dr. Jeff Burrell officiated.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, Atlanta, Ga. Office, 17 Executive Park Drive, Suite 115, Atlanta, GA 30329-2012.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
