Ivan "Cowboy" Bennett, 87, of Dawsonville, died Oct. 23, 2015.

Mr. Bennett was born May 26, 1928 and had been a resident of Dawsonville for more than 40 years coming from Forsyth County.

A minister who believed and lived by the Bible, he loved everyone. He was a carpenter by trade and well known for the good quality of his work.

His parents, George and Desi Bennett; children, David Bennett, Donna Bennett; four brothers; two sisters; grandson, Donald Metcalf Jr.; preceded her in death.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Bennett of Dawsonville; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Donna Bennett of Dawsonville; daughter and sons-in-law, Jean and Hoppy Cook, Martha "Runt" and Lloyd Flynn of Dawsonville, Margaret and Bob Teague of Ellijay, Gloria and Steve Terry of Cumming, Cathy and Floyd West of Chatsworth; brother, Charles Bennett of Cumming; sisters, Willie Mae Buice of Dahlonega, Jeanette Walker of Maysville; a great number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry Payne officiating. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to help offset final expenses.
