Ila Mae Carruth Wood, 95, of Jacksonville, Ala., died April 26, 2017.

Mrs. Wood was born in Dawsonville on Feb. 14, 1922. Mrs. Wood was a military wife for more than 20 years. She and Sam settled in Jacksonville, Ala. in 1967 when he retired from the Army.

Mrs. Wood loved gardening, reading and genealogy. She was a member of West Side Baptist Church.

Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her husband, the Ret. SFC Samuel Wood; her 7-year-old daughter, Suan Wood; parents, Joe and Bertie Carruth; and her sister, Winnie Livingston.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and John Maurer of Jacksonville, Ala.; grandson and his wife, John and Courtney Maurer of Birmingham, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Sara Carruth of Gainesville; brother-in-law, Denson Wood of Clanton, Ala.; various other relatives also survive.

Services were held at noon April 29 at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

The Joy Sunday School Class from West Side Baptist served as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the West Side Baptist Church Building Fund, 713 Mountain St., N.W., Jacksonville, AL 36265 or to the Activities Department, Jacksonville H&R, 410 Wilson Dr., S.W., Jacksonville, AL 36265.

K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Jacksonville, Ala., was in charge of the arrangements.
