Herbert Ascot Buddy Lang Jr.

Herbert Ascot "Buddy" Lang Jr., 59, of Cumming, died June 7, 2011.

He was born Aug. 17, 1951 in Atlanta and was the son of the late Herbert Ascot Lang Sr. and the late Hannah Tavenier Lang.

Buddy was president of Lang Signs Inc. in Cumming, one of the oldest businesses in Forsyth County, which was founded by his father in 1929. He also owned various other operating businesses and commercial real estate holding companies.

Buddy was a founding shareholder and director of Citizens Bank of Forsyth County, where he remained on the board of directors.

Buddy believed in giving back to the community and instilled the same spirit of volunteerism in his family. One of his favorite nonprofits was Bald Ridge Lodge, an emergency shelter for boys, which he cofounded. He was also a charter member and past president of the South Forsyth Rotary Club and had previously served on the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Board, the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce Board, United Way and various other local nonprofits.

His brother, Adriaan Lang, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Hood Lang of Cumming; children, V. Kevin Lang (Rebecca) of Athens, Valery Lang Hall (Jeff) of Cumming; grandchildren, Camden and Adair Lang; brother, Isaac Lang (Deborah) of Cumming; various other relatives also survive.

A private family service was held on June 10.

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested made to Bald Ridge Lodge at 562 Lakeland Plaza, No. 302, Cumming, GA 30040.

Ingram Funeral Home and Crematory of Cumming was in charge of the arrangements.
