Grace Smith Abernathy, 79, of Dawsonville, died Sept. 7, 2012.

Born Oct. 31, 1932, in Lumpkin County to the late Ode and Dolly Reeves, she lived most of her life in Dawson County.

A homemaker at her death, she was formerly employed at Sweet-Orr, Kabar and U.S.I. Industries.

She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

Her husbands, Wilburn Smith and Charles "Short" Abernathy; brothers, Horace Reeves, Gene Reeves, Jack Reeves and Jimmy Reeves; and sisters, Pauline Reeves and Edna Fletcher, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Judy and Jim Geisler of Monroe, La., Glynn Smith of Dawsonville, Anita Canada of Gainesville; sister, Odeleen Talley of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Jeff and Amy Garmon of Milner, Jennifer and John Reser of Bossier City, La., Heather Smith of Atlanta, Hillarie Smith of Dawsonville, Amy Ransom of Gainesville; great-grandchildren, Christopher Ekberg, Emiley Reser, John Austin Reser, all of Bossier City, Rachel Garmon, Matthew Garmon, both of McDonough, Kacie Trammell of Griffin, Zoe Smith of Dawsonville; various other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 9 at Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Joey Gilbert officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
