Gordon Leon Bruce, 87, of Dawsonville, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009.

  

Born March 8, 1922 to the late Ervin and Vashti Bruce, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.

  

Mr. Bruce retired from the Department of Agriculture after over 40 years of service, was a deacon of Harmony Baptist Church, where he served as church clerk for over 20 years and taught Sunday School for 42 years.

  

He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of WWII, where he served in the Pacific Theater.

  

His brother, William T. "Ralph" Bruce, also preceded him in death.

  

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Onie Bruce of Dawsonville; sons and daughter-in-law, Don Bruce, Mike and Jackie Bruce, all of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Tabatha and Ricky Chastain, Bart Bruce, Derek Bruce; great-granddaughter, Morgan Chastain; various other relatives also survive.

  

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23 at Harmony Baptist Church with the Revs. Joey Gilbert, J.W. Day and Steve Warren officiating.

  

Interment followed in the church cemetery.

  

Bearden Funeral Home of Dawsonville was in charge of the arrangements.
