Georgeann Vick Schanke, 68, of Dawsonville, died March 6, 2018.
Born July 11, 1949 to Dr. George Henry Vick and Sarah Ann Fischer Vick, and raised in Charleston, W.Va. and Atlanta, she was a graduate of Georgia Southern University, and later lived on St. Simon’s Island. Georgeann’s love was teaching children. She taught kindergarten through third grade for many years, was an Instructional Lead Teacher, and was named Teacher of the Year at Gwin Oaks Elementary School in Lawrenceville. The youngest of three children, Georgeann was known as the adorable little red-head. She had a spunky personality and sought out fun and laughter in all she did. She loved her friends and family deeply, with an endearing passion and genuine caring for each individual, always selflessly prioritizing others.
Her husband of 33 years, Leo P. Schanke; her parents; sister, Bonnie Gray Vick Stone, and brother, Charles Edgar Vick, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her stepdaughter, Monica Schanke Donner (Matt); grandsons, Macintosh and Mercer; Margo Bass (Mark), Garrett and Devin; nieces, Clare Stone Jordan (Fred) and Sarah Stone Reeves (Terry); cousins, Anne Vick Birke (Gene), and Christine Vick (Radford Koerner); partner, Kurt Michel, and many close friends and family members.
Georgeann’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Northside Forsyth’s ICU for their dedicated care at the end of her life.
A memorial service as a witness to the resurrection will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church in Dawsonville at 2 p.m. March 23.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to honor her church, RIC-Rack Food Bank, children or animals, causes dear to Georgeann’s heart.
